Ostomy bag Tips
To ensure optimal efficiency and ease of use, we consulted dozens of test patients to determine their needs and preferences. We recommend following the below guidelines to get the maximum benefit from your Ostyclean system:
- To minimize odors and undesirable viewing when cleaning your ostomy pouch, use scented anti-bacterial soap.
- After turning on the water during cleaning, place your hand on top of the pouch with your fingers pointing down. To restrict the flow, gently press down until the pouch inflates in your palm. This maximizes the efficiency of the spray jets so every inch is sanitized.
- Try alternating ostomy pouches to prevent accidental discharges during the cleaning process.
- For maximum convenience, most patients store their Ostyclean system on a towel on top of the toilet tank or inside a small trash can next to the toilet.
- Regardless of what kind of ostomy bag you’re using, it’s a good idea to empty and clean your bag when it’s half-full. For optimal hygiene, you should clean your ostomy bag each time you empty it.
